Objective: To systematically evaluate the relationship between periodontitis and the risk of erectile dysfunction . Methods: The related researches between PD and ED were searched from the databases of Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, WanFang data and CBM from inception to October 2021. Odds ratio and corresponding 95% confidence intervals were used to estimate the association between PD and the risk of ED. A meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.1 software. Results: A total of 7 researches involving 215 991 participants were finally included. The result of meta-analysis showed that PD was associated with an increased risk of ED as compared with the non-periodontitis populations, with a statistically significant difference . The statistical heterogeneity was high across all studies . However, the combined effects were generally consistent with the sensitivity and subgroup analyses, showing a good stability of present effect. Conclusion: The current evidence indicates that PD increases the risk of ED, and PD might be a potential and important risk factor for occurrence of ED. However, limited by the quality and heterogeneity of the included studies, further prospective studies with high-quality are recommended to strength the evidence supporting the association between both diseases.收起
