Pathologists are often referred to as “doctors’ doctors”, but many people are unclear about the role of pathologists in the health care system. The purpose of the current study is to analyze the understanding of pathologists among participants with and without medical backgrounds, and to identify the need to strengthen the awareness of pathologists and establish the image of pathologists in people’s minds. The questionnaire was released through the questionnaire star and forwarded to each other through WeChat, and the snowball sampling method was adopted. A total of 527 people participated in the study, and it is worth noting that only 48.00% of participants identified pathologists as doctors. There were significant differences between participants with medical background and those without medical background in that the pathologist’s diagnosis report had a great influence on treatment, and pathologists play an important role in diagnosis. The results show that the most basic knowledge of pathologists as doctors is not known, and the importance of pathologists in disease diagnosis is not recognized.收起
