'Water-in-salt' electrolytes can enlarge the electrochemical stability window of aqueous electrolytes, and thus help to achieve safe and high-voltage aqueous electrochemical energy storage devices. WIS electrolytes use highly concentrated salts, which raises an important concern about the temperature availability. Here we demonstrate the temperature-dependent structure and performance evolution of LiTFSI/H 2 O electrolytes with different concentrations ) using Raman spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations. The 21 m WIS electrolyte is advantageous in the high-temperature range , but the 5 m WIS electrolyte remains stable gel state until the temperature drops to -40 °C due to the muscular hydrogen bond network. Above 15-20 °C, the side reactions are more seriously in the all-concentrated electrolytes due to the destruction of intermolecular interaction. The electrochemical performance evaluation of carbon supercapacitors assembled with these three electrolytes further verify our findings. This work provides guidance to select suitable WIS electrolytes for electrochemical energy storage devices that will be used at different temperature applications. © 2022, The Authors.
