Aim. To study the diurnal blood pressure variation in the patients with borderline hypertension and to explore the features of epidemiology in this population. Methods. Fifty patients with borderline hypertension, 36 males and 14 females with an average age of years, were taken to monitor 24-hour BP with no-damaged portable BP monitor. Results. 1 The 24-hour mean blood pressure [ / mmHg, daytime mean diastolic blood pressure [ mmHg], and nighttime MBP [/ mmHg] of patients with borderline hypertension were significantly higher than those of normotensive controls . 2 MBP in M1 and M3 was significantly higher than that in M2 . 3 The difference between Max SBP and Min SBP [ mmHg] and the difference between Max DBP and Min DBP[ mmHg] were significant. 4 DBP load values were 54.7% in M3 period, 49.3% in M1 period, and 22.1% in M2 period, which were all more than 10%. Conclusion. 1 BP of the patient with borderline hypertension varies markedly in 24 hours. It is different to make a proper diagnosis just by measuring BP at any moment. 2 Because 24-hour BP fluctuates greatly , target-organs such as heart, brain and kidney are easy to be damaged. Therefore, borderline hypertension should claim attention and be controlled as soon as possible.收起
