Ethnopharmacological relevance 1-Deoxynojirimycin , a naturally occurring alkaloid derived from mulberry leaves , is a powerful α-glucosidase inhibitor that has notable hypoglycemic effects. Nonetheless, the fundamental molecular mechanisms—especially diabetic cardiomyopathy —are still not fully understood.
